I recently had an Asus P3V4X go bad on me, so I bought an MSI 694D-AR to replace it. It has the Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset and supports dual PIII, although I only have one 733 on it right now.
Anyway, here is the problem. I did a fresh install of ME when it arrived. I have a WDC 13.6GB 7200rpm connected to primary master of the UDMA66 controller. Everything works fine except when I try to run UT or Deus Ex. They work fine but it takes almost 5 full minutes to even start. On the P3V4X it took no longer than 20 seconds. It appears the hard drive is slowing down when starting D3D games although these are the only two that I have tried. Quake3 opens normally and runs normally but hard drive accesses still seem slow when I run a timedemo. Before you start thinking, it is something simple, I do have UDMA enabled in the BIOS and DMATOOL utility is reporting DMA is ON for Hard drive and DVD. Sisoft Sandra even reports 12000+ rating for Drive Benchmark.
I am using via 4-in-1 drivers v 4.25a. As I said before, everything else seems to be fine and speedy (framerates, app loading, OS loading) just games load very, very slowly.
Please help if you have any ideas.
