Hey everyone I am currently in the market for a system. I am looking at getting a GA-965P-DS3, GA-965G-DS3 or a DFI Infinity P965-S. Is the 965G worth the extra 20$? or will I not notice much of a difference. For the processor I am looking at a low end one, either the e4300 or e6420. I was thinking about getting a P35 board but in like 8-12 months I dont even know if i'll want a penryn since the K10 hasn't been benched. I am currently using a x2 3800 with Asus A8n-sli deluxe. Will i notice much performance difference with a e4300? keep in mind i plan on overclocking. Are there other boards that I should be looking at? The DFI (in my mind) looks like it will be the best for my system, granted it costs a little more, but oh well.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'd wait for Sept and see if Intel sells the q6600 quad core for $266. I have an old 3200 and the q6600 may be my last system for many years.

I am currently waiting on P35 boards... Y would u not want a Penryn on 45nm which should run cooler and maybe good overclocker...? Though i donno if im gonna be able to decide on which vidcard to get because right now the choices on dx10 cards suck! And i dont have another pci_E card so im so limited... I am afraid I cant upgrade to a new system untill Theres a DX10 vidcard with 512mb ram or more, 256bit bus and performance of the 8800gts somewhere...for about $300 or less... and some good drivers not the current nVidia sucky drivers... I feel that card won't come out for another 6 months :(
If i had a spare x16 id probably upgrade to a P35 and e4300 for now... I dont think this is the best time to upgrade thoe.... Maybe around August before the new games start coming out and we might have an idea what cards work better with which games..

Well for pricing issues because I assume the penryn's are going to come in at a higher price no? and the P35 boards are kinda pricey and the x38 boards will more expensive. So what I figure is that I can get a decent system now then get one in a year.

Right now I do light gaming with a bunch of RAR extracting burning stuff like that and some multimedia stuff.

Are you sure there is going to be such a huge drop in price on the Q6600? right now I can do a E6420 for 220ish CAD and a DFI Infinity for 175ish CAD. If you think the price will drop that much on the quad then i'll wait but if its only like a 100$ price drop then the lower end C2D's won't drop that much and it won't really be worth me waiting

That $266 price has been posted many times, but it's not guaranteed. Still, I think it's worth the wait. Imagine a 4 core cpu that runs at only 95w. Newer versions should require even less energy.
