say for example, I make a document that looks like

----------------------
----------------------
----------------------
----------------------
--xxxx yyyyy-------
----------------------
----------------------

how can i make the xxxx yyyy part together, so the next person can click on it and it'll highlight and all he/she needs to do is start typing, and it'll automatically replace the whole thing.

i know the next person can highlight it with mouse or key combo, but i want it to be even easier (fool proof), so that just a single mouse click will show the user what needs to be changed/fill out/completed. as in an application type of thing.

thanks!

Check out the forms toolbar in Word. It may be able to do what you're looking for it to do.

You need to do the document as a FORM (as above) using the FORMS toolbar. You would insert a text box field for the part of the form you want the person to fill in. Forms are a bit complicated but very powerful once you know how, so it might be worthwhile to take time to learn this capability. After you have created the form, you must use the padlock icon (again, on the FORMS TOOLBAR) to lock the document. Any text field that you wanted the people to fill in will appear as a little gray box (very customizable and NOT limited to the size it shows up as--you can change fonts, formatting, etc.). The form, if done properly, will jump right to the part you want them to fill out. If it's UNLOCKED, you can make changes to the form, but it will not behave properly for the people to fill it in.
