So, I'm moving into my new apartment on Friday. I'm having trouble determining what type and brand of mattress I want to buy.
So far, I'm leaning toward a Sealy Posturepedic Fenway Queen mattress and box spring from Costco. I've slept on this type of mattress before and I love it. Costco is selling it for $550, after tax and sheets I'm probably looking around $750. I'm 6'1" and both twin and full beds will fit me, but my feet tend to dangle over the edge if I stretch out. My thinking is, if I'm going to spend $400 or $500 on a mattress/box spring, why not spend $600 and just get a Queen-sized bed now?
While this is comfortable, it is a Queen sized bed, 60" x 80". I'm not enthused about how much space this will occupy in my room, which is 9'3" x 12'5". My thought right now is that as long as I can fit a desk in the room, a filing cabinet, and some nightstands, and still move freely, get dressed, or spread out on the floor, I'll be ok.
My next sticking point is a bedframe. I bought this bed frame from Ikea on Sunday. However, after thinking it over, I'm doubting how the bedframe will look and feel with both a mattress and a box spring in it. Ikea seems to only offer mattresses (no box springs) so I think this bed frame is really designed for a mattress only. According to an Ikea sales rep, people *can* use it with a box spring. However, just doubling the mattress in my head gives me a bed frame dwarfed by the mattress.
If the bedframe is too small, then I'd rather take it back and get a simple metal support, and get my $300 back.
Summary:
1. Has anyone here had both a full and queen-sized mattress? Can you offer any advice as to choosing a size?
2. Has anyone here fit a queen-sized mattress and bedframe into a 9'x12' room? Were you able to use the room without being dominated by the bed?
3. Has anyone here put a mattress+box spring on an Ikea bed frame designed for only a mattress? Did the addition of the box spring render the bed frame useless?
Thanks.
