i've looked on linksys website but couldnt find the flash utility. could you plz give me a link to the utility.
thanks

I don't ever recall a Linksys flash utility. I know routers like Asus have one but don't recall one on any of my Linksys routers.

You can try to TFTP a firmware to the router...I found the directions (again) with a Yahoo search. Download the latest firmware for you router and do the following:

spend few hours yesterady to unbrick the router, 54g v1.0,

steps to follow :

Static ip (of network card in PC) adress 192.168.1.105 is a good choice
Set Network card 10MB /halfduplex
plug the RJ45 PC-Router
*under windows XP run cmd and \ping -t 192.168.1.1
*under windows XP run a 2nd cmd (new window seperate from the ping window above) and get the following cmd line ready :

tfpt -i 192.168.1.1 PUT XXXX.bin (XXXX whatever the firmare name is) USE linksys firm 2.xx NOT 3.xxx (too big)

Switch on the router and check the ping : you should get 4 or 5 response at the very begining.

here is the trick : switch off / switch on / as soon as you see the ping starting RUN the TPFT command (timming is crucial)

Wait/Switch OFF/ Switch ON / check Ping (if you get continuous answer you are done... login in via web interface and update to the latest firmware you want.

if not start again.

Don't have a clue about current Linksys firmwares or their sizes (i.e. version 2.xxx vs 3.xxx) but apparantely TFTP has a size limit of 3MB.

Good luck.

Yes, this linksys utility will force a flash. I've used to to unbrick a few routers.

Ah, I see. Thanks. Didn't realize that Linksys had a "nice" TFTP utility! 😀

now after doing hard reset on it, i think it's dead now (the power led keeps on blinking indefinitely).
when i try the ultility, after 3 tries it says server is not respoding.

worse case scenario, get a ttl level converter for serial port, crack the cover, and try and get a terminal.

If that doesn't work, then you're pretty well hooped, unless you know someone at linksys 😉

Or program it via a jtag device! 😉

Did you follow the instructions on linksys's site?

There's a particular procedure to follow.
