I have an idiot friend who did something of which I am unsure. But he has an Asus CUSL2-C with pretty standard hardware. He tried to install something in the motherboard, but when he restarted - after the IDE detection, it went straight into the BIOS saying some error message like the following:

Message Confirmation
Your system has been intruded or the settings have been tampered with. Please check your system.

We've tried everything to get it working again - cleared CMOS, removed all non-essential hardware. I tried to do a BIOS flash, but it goes straight into the BIOS with that error message right after IDE detection, so I can't even boot into anything.

Any bright ideas on this problem?

Thanks in advance.

What on Earth can a user install on a mobo? Sheesh. Anyway, there is a BIOS setting in Asus mobos that controls and detects intrusions. It is in the Hardware Monitor section and is called Chassis Intrusion. This comes DISABLED (default) It has a RESET function which should be activated. It must have been ENABLED when he did what he did.

I just checked the BIOS menu on that computer - and there is no chassis intrusion option under teh Hardware Monitoring.

is it possible that he moved one of the front panel cables onto the pins for the intrusion device?

you know, "Oops, the speaker cable came loose. Where to put it? Oh look, some pins!! Let's put it here . . ."

i know the A7V133 that i have, has got pins for this.

Nah, that's not it - like I said, we totally stripped the system down to only essential hardware. This includes motherboard, CPU, RAM, vcard, monitor, PSU, keyboard. That's it.

OK . . . this is right out of the Asus manual for the CUSL2-C (page 38!!!)

>>>Chassis Intrusion Lead (2-pin ACHA)

This lead is for a chassis designed for chassis intrusion detection. After-market
toggle switches may also be installed to the chassis panel or on any removable
components. Two wires should be available from the chassis to connect to this
lead. When anv chassis component is removed, the contact should open and the
motherboard will record a chassis intrusion event. The event can then be pro-
cessed by software such as LDCM. If the chassis intrusion lead is not used, a
jumper cap must be placed over the pins to close the circuit.<<<

Make sure that jumper is capped! When open, it is in the anti-intrusion mode.

Yeah Corky, I just read that on the ASUS manual. I have the system up and running now, but still not sure why it was enabled in the first place - it's not like a simple BIOS option where you can accidentally click enter or something, I'm curious as to why this could have been enabled.

Thanks for the help though!
