I manage a small network of some 20 PCs, that has a an 4 year old computer PIII,450 running Windows 2000 Server hosting our industry specific ERP software program and data with peer to peer clients running Win98/ME/XP Home/NT 4.0 etc. As the server has been running continuously, I fear that soon some thing will die, and so I am building a replacement .
I looked at Dell/HP/Gateway but was put off by their use of older technology- I decided, without a great deal of research, on the 865 chipset and 800 FSB 2.4 cpu, WD special ed HD, Kingston KVR333X64C25/256 256MB DDR333 PC2700 dual sticks. Looked for a 3 years warranty for all major components.
While the mb has features I was looking for - onboard video/audio, sata and ide, gigabit lan, no raid, when I started assembling the system, I find there is no connector for the case speaker, and I wonder if thats going to be a problem initially. How do I get around this, hook up the speakers?
I would ideally like to clone the hard drive, so that if there is a problem I just load the back up data from tape or straight copied files to the new computer and be up in about an hour or so. Can I use Ghost or Drive Image for Windows 2000, I am not sure that I can do a fresh install all by meself?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.
