this is my second cd-rom and when i tried to install my new burner my pc did not recognize either the dvd reader or cd burner. they are both connected on the same IDE cable so i thoght my DVD would be master and my burner would be slave but when i press DEL at startup to see my bios setings i see that my maxtor ND is primary master, there is no primary slave, there is no secondary master, but the secondary slave is my dvd drive (note: this is only when i disconnect my burner, i have not checked my bios when they were both connected). There are only 2 IDE cable slots on my mobo and 1 is being used by my ND and the other by my DVD reader. is there someway i can switch my dvd to master in the bios or is there some kind of switch on the drive itself? please help me guys

Asus K8V SE Deluxe
Maxtor 120 gig HD
Artec 16x dvd reader
Artec cd burner

yes there is a jumper on the ide drives that will distinguish between master and slave. It has a shunt on the back next to the power that needs to be removed and placed where it will indicate master or slave.

Yes, those are it. There should be a diagram on the drive that explains how to get the jumpers.
