Need help with install

I've come to my wit's end. Can someone please help me with this? My problem is I put together a computer with win2k. It work fine for a while and suddenly just died. The os will not boot up anymore. I tried fdisk and formatting the hard drive to load win2k. At first it would not recognize more than 2gigs for the hdd. Now, I finally got it to recognize the full 30gigs. However, it won't install win2k or win98 from the msdn disks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
make bootable floppys from the msdn disks, or
copy the entire contents of the i386 directory to the hard drive and run winnt.exe from there.
