Need help with HTPC build with a Kabylake CPU

Indus

Hi there I've been looking into a HTPC build for a while now. I was suggested a barebones NUC system earlier but its just not my thing especially after having overheating laptops. I prefer an actual PC.

I came across Kabylake Pentium processors which now have hyperthreading enabled so I thought I might as well downgrade from an i3 to a Kabylake Pentium and not lose much processing power for playing movies. So I need help configuring a system. Basically my needs are just motherboard, ram, hard drive and a good Wifi AC NIC.

Can you help me out? And here's the stuff you prefer..

1. What YOUR PC will be used for: Movies/ HTPC

2. What YOUR budget is. Under $400,

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA, www.newegg.com

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. Intel and I want to use a KabyLake Pentium CPU

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are: Computer Case, Power Supply, Keyboard, Mouse

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. Default

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using? 1080p

9. WHEN do you plan to build it? ASAP

10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software? No I have Windows.

Thanks if you can help.

You could go with something like I'm using, an ARock DeskMini H110W mini-STX PC, with a Kaby Lake G4600 (got that over the G4560, not only because they were available earlier, but they also have the HD630 iGPU, as opposed to the HD610). 2x8GB GSkill DDR4-2400 SO-DIMMs, and both an M.2 PCI-E as well as a SATA 2.5" SSD.

I'm using it to power a 4K UHD TV for my desktop. I'm using a Club3D active DP-to-HDMI2.0 adapter.

Whole thing was around $400 + OS.

Edit: DeskMini H110W comes with Intel gigabit NIC, and an Intel 1x1 AC + BT wifi M.2 short card.

It does require some assembly, to get the wifi antennas and the M.2 card installed.

Edit:
DeskMini H110W $140 + $4 ship (Newegg)
GSkill 16GB DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM kit $105
Kaby Lake G4600 $90

Add SSDs to taste.

I've got Win10 Pro 64-bit, Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1, and Linux Mint 18.1 64-bit, all running using a multi-boot on one of my DeskMini PCs.

I have tried building computers to use with TV's with different kinds of Motherboards and options. I tried motherboards from Gigabyte with the WIFI card which comes with the motherboard and found it worked well. I also tried an AC USB adapter and found it works fine as well. The latter route may be less expensive. I currently have 3 TV's and no cable access. They are all hooked up to the Internet using wireless. My son also lives with me and he has a gaming computer using wireless also.

Wireless Adapter Used: ($15.99)

I used this Gigabyte motherboard:

This motherboard is $78 but it is $30 off with an eligible Intel CPU. In my case I chose an i-3 6100. I added 16 GB of DDR4 and a standard Hard Drive. Is it cheap enough, I dont know. It has been working well so far. There are some led traces that light up on the motherboard. Some people may find this annoying.

I purchased a $200 32" 1080p Samsung HDTV that I put in my bedroom.

I used a cube case from Thermaltake that looks kind of cute. It was very easy to build a computer with. I realize a cube case may not be for everyone.

The top, bottom, Front, Back, Left and right sides all come off. Power supply mounts on bottom. The top, and the right and left side are all the same exact size and interchangeable.
