Need help with heatsink/fan solution for older Athalon

One of my systems is a slot A motherboard with an Athalon 1.4 ghz on it. Looking for a heatsink/fan to replace one that died. I am also replacing a fan on my primary system which is a 939 board with the x2 3800+ CPU. The x2 3800+ came with a stock heatsink/cooler....Anyone know if it will fit on the Slot A board and be strong enough for the older Athalon 1.4? Thanks.

You'd have to do some serious modding to fit any socket heatsink on a slot processor, especially when one standard is so much newer than the other. Just look for a heatsink for it on ebay or something.

AMD never made a 1.4 Ghz Slot A processor. The fastest Slot A was the 1.0 Ghz Athlon Thunderbird; anything any faster than that was Socket A, although they also made slower Socket A chips.

Athlon x2 cooler won't fit a Socket A. The clips are completely different.

A Socket A cooler should be pretty cheap. Lots of us have more Socket A coolers than we know what to do with. Maybe try the For Sale forums.

Truenofan...That's cool. Gotta check my mb manual to make sure it takes the CPU and then I will bid on it. Thanks...
