just move into my house recently and the heat pump is not working right. I would set the temperature at 76 degree but the max high heat temperature blowing out the vent is around 72.

So my heat pump has to go into the AUX mode to get it up to 76 degree. In AUX mode, the air that's coming out of the vent is about 90 degree. I went outside to check my electric meter and it's spinning like crazy when in AUX mode.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Sounds normal for a heat pump.

Most people I know that have them prefer the AUX heat from a gas fired furnace since it feels warmer.

The AUX heat should not kick in if the temperature outside is less than 50 degree. My unit is on most of the time because the regular mode doesn't provide enough heat

Also note that depending on the age of the unit, the coils are probably coated in dirt/grime, reducing their efficiency. If the unit ois more than about five years old and especially if anyone smokes in the house, it might not be a bad idea to have a professional clean it if they have to come out anyway (note that you may need to ask for it beforehand as they may not carry the chemicals with them). I know that when I used to work on A/C systems (commercial), we could usually get a 1-6 degree decrease in temp output with a good cleaning (lower temp is better when it is July in Phoenix).

The unit is brand new. We just moved in the house. The heating guy came out and said it was normal. Now i know that using AUX is not normal when the temperature out is 60 degree. The installation manual even stated that.

If the unit is brand new and not performing to spec, then do the following:
1) Call the manufacturer and ask again if that is within spec
2) If not, contact the builder (or whoever this is covered under) again.

What do you need it warmer than 72 degrees for?

My money is that you are out of refrigerant/have a leak. Whoever told you it was okay - don't let them near anything you own.

if the air is only blowing at 72 degree and the temp in the room let say 60, it's going to take longer to reach my setpoint temp. Now if the air is blowing out at 85 degree, then it would take a shorter time to warm the house, saving electricity.

But i found out what the problem is, i inspected the pipe under the crawl space. There's a leaked in the copper pipe. The builder sent the dude that worked on it to fix it. Some dumbass bend the pipe instead of using a 45 degree copper connector. So my freaking electric bill is going to be outrageous this month since the unit was on AUX heat all the time.

where do u live?

we are in FL and i heat pump is fine here, but up north your spinning your wheels.
the reason the meter is going crazy in AUX mode is because the heat strips are on.

If it's new construction, the unit is probably not charged properly.
Wait till it gets hot and get someone out there that knows what they are doing

I don't have much to say except I really like my gas heat. It's not been that expensive this year, but it's pretty efficient. I can really kick up the heat and don't think it has a cutoff for for making the place unbearably warm if I want to spend the money. I've just never needed to. When my thermostat is set to 68 degrees, I'm comfortable. At night, it's usually set to 64.
