52" Philips LCD 120hz HDMI In
ATI 3450 HDMI Out

I've been a loyal fan of ATI for 10 years (I am from Toronto, hometown of ATI), but their lack of support and crap drivers just ended my support.

First of all, HDMI out on ATI has been nothing but headache for all owners.

1) HDMI outputs beautifully with Catalyst 8.3 and higher but Audio gets disabled.

2) HDMI outputs like hell with overly sharpened text and blinding image with Catalyst 8.2, and audio only works with 8.2

So why did ATI enabled HDMI audio on 8.2 and disabled it on 8.3+ ? Why does 8.2 image have such a terrible quality? I am not GPU scaling and I do not have under/overscan problem. ALL settings from 800x600 to 1920x1200 is displaying like someone with Grave's disease.

Is there a way to modify the 8.2 driver with 8.8 to get both audio and best image quality?

Thanks in advance.

HDMI out is still pretty new to video cards. So there will be issues. I beleive the audio issues are no longer support due to all the probelms they have ben causing. Besides you are better off with PC speakers. built in monitor/TV speakers are not all that great to start with. So stick with the tired and true DVI port and onboard audio/sound card. The GPU has enough to do already. Trying to cram a desent sound possesor on it is probably too much.

I am actually running this HDMI with Athena WS100 and Onkyo HTS606
The problem persists whether straight to TV or through Onkyo.

To get audio, I either have to
1) Get a sound card
2) Get another set of speaker

ATI should never put this product out if it does not work right. nVidia HDMI works fine from what I hear. One thing frustrating is that ATI HDMI audio and video can both work but they refuse to support it after 8.2

You already have a sound card. the video card can not produce sound, it can only FORWARD it... now that sound card might be built into your motherboard, but it is there. Get drivers 8.8, use HDMI for video, and plug audio from your sound card (most likely ports on your motherboard) for audio.

It does work right, the video outputs perfectly from the video card over HDMI. if you use the latest drivers.

If you read the post, I have absolutely no problem with HDMI video out. It's the audio out.
As I said, I am using it with Athena WS100 or TV speaker.
If I output sound from speaker out, I need to get a PC speaker.
Thanks for the link, but HDMI video out needs to be accompanied by Audio from either HDMI/SPDIF or Optical toslink. RCA analog audio won't feed.

The reason for buying 3450 HDMI is to utilize one cable not purchase a PC speaker.
I could've easily used DVI out and PC speaker out with my previous card.

Complete garbage support from ATI.

EDIT: Actually, I could use that PC-RCA converter and utilize my TV speaker since it has the RCA in on the side of the TV. My onkyo 606 won't take analog audio with HDMI vid.

Did you have the same issue with 8.2? I am just trying to figure out why the image is so poor on particular 8.2 driver and why ATI disabled HDMI audio from 8.3 and on.

I think I might just get the Optical out Soundcard and optical toslink to my onkyo and feed the audio with HDMI vid out.
