Just yesterday, my IBM 45giger 75GXP started to develop bad sectors. I have thus ordered a new hard drive and is being shipped. However I tried to run scandisk surface scan on the drive and everytime it passes over a bad sector it would start causing weird noises from the drive and just stay there for a long time and freeze up. I was thinking about ghosting the drive at first, however with that problem of freezing up whenever it passes over that area makes this impossible. So what I was thinking was just get the new hard drive, attach it to the primary slave, and copy any files which can't be replaced then format the current drive and let the Drive Fitness Test run the Erase Disk(As thus far only the DFT is able to pass over the damaged area and not freeze up) and then after it has repaired the damaged areas I would install windows onto the IBM drive once again and copy back the files I copied onto the new drive. After all is set and well, I would format the new hard drive and then clone the drives using ghost. I was just wondering if there was a faster and better way of doing all this. BTW, I ran scandisk in windows not in dos.
