I've built a pc before but with new parts. I recently built one with used parts, but the guy I bought the parts from neglected to reset all his settings and has now disappeared somewhere. Here's the issue, the new pc I've just built has windows 8 but the user name is password protected. At first I didn't want to even try and access the account due to privacy an tried to reset to factory settings. After attempting this it asked me for the windows in stallion disc, but I don't have one. Is there a way to reset the pc (without the disc) or get into it? Thanks for any help in advance.

You just built a new PC, with Windows 8, but somehow, it's password-protected? Something doesn't add up here.

I'm assuming the guy used the parts before I bought them off him. The OS is saved on your RAM and hard disc. The only parts I didn't buy from this guy is the drive, tower, and the fans. But thank you anyway for trying to help.

The OS is not saved on your ram, unless you want to count the hibernate feature...

Why would he sell you a hard disc that still had his Win8 install on it?

And why would you want to try and use it? His Win8 install is bound to be full of junk you don't want to deal with.

I'm assuming that by "drive", you meant a CD/DVD drive?

Format the drive, buy a copy of windows, and reinstall it.

There is a workaround available:

1. Plug the drive into another computer & get the Windows key from it
2. Reinstall Windows

Nirsoft has a free tool called ProduKey that lets you view product keys on other drives. Just go up to File > Select Source after plugging the drive into another computer:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

You can recreate the install media for free on discs or a USB stick:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Then just reinstall Windows 8 using the product key.

It's also very possible the parts you bought were stolen - often, they're locked down in places where they might be stolen from, such as high schools. Since you said that
The only parts I didn't buy from this guy is the drive...
it would seem that Windows isn't your issue; the issue is likely in the bios. Windows is located on the hard drive.

What drive didn't come with it? Are you talking about the hard drive?
