hi, i currently own a pny geforce fx 5200 ultra crad with a dying fan. the fan goes slow then stop the goes med then stop so its really inconsistent. i dont think this is normal and the fan is dead silent which i dont believe that the fx series can do, i believe there should atleast be some shoud from the card. i currently have a normal 80mm fan mounted on the graphics card and im woundering if thats enough to cool the gpu under heavy load. and if possible could someone give me a link to the fan for the gpu i believe its a 40mm that i need. but my main question now is that is the 80mm fan enough to cool the gpu at heavy load. THANKS TO THOSE THAT HELP!

Ok, let me get this straight... You have a 5200FX card. The fan died. You currently have an 80mm case fan mounted on the cards heatsink? For starters, 5200's dont generate much heat. Some manufacturers produce them with passive heat sinks.(without fans). If you want a silent computer but a cool gpu, get a larger heatsink for the card without a fan. If you feel the card is getting too hot, place a very low rpm 60-80mm fan so it blows air across the heat sink. You should have zero problems without the fan though as long as you use a larger heatsink. Check out Zalman.

how much more heat would the fx 5200 ultra produce over the average fx 5200
mines the fx 5200 and original fan is going tooo slow and making clicking sound.
so i have a 80mm fan onto with the original hs, is that enough for hevey load.

As far as I know, the nvidia 45.23 drivers contains a temperature monitor in its control panel. You can see how hot your vid card gets. You should be fine with that 80mm fan by the way. More air than it will ever need.

Ok, if you have a 40mm fan and replace it with an 80mm, it should move at least as much air as the old one, in most cases considerably more. So yes, it should be enough to cool it. If you wanted to replace it with a cooling system designed for a video card you could get an vantec iceberq or a zalman or one of the others out.
