I upgraded from a 3d Prophet II GTS 64mb DDR to a Leadtek Geforce 4 TI 4600 vivo. My problem occurs only when trying to play a Directx game, or the DirectX portions of 3dmark 2001se. If I try to play a DirectX game my pc will either crash to desktop, lockup, or reboot the system. I have tried like 10 different nvidia drivers, fresh Windows 2000 install, re-installed directx 8.1, have latest VIA drivers, and I cant see it being a power issue because I can play opengl games perfectly stable without any problems, other then when trying to play directx games the system is 100% stable. Nothing on this system has been overclocked. Any help would be great.

i know enermax makes good power supplies, but do u really think a 300watt is sufficient for 2 cdroms, 3 hard drives and a TI4600?
I think you need to start looking at the 400watt and up Enermax, AGI, or Antec power supplies :)
Good luck!

Yes the PSU is sufficent.. I can run any directx 7 or under app, can run 3d mark 2001 SE except the 3 game "demos", the rest of it including Nature, runs perfectly.. I also tested the PSU by unplugging everything except the HD the OS is on and still the same issue.

Just installed Win2k on a fresh HD, then installed the via drivers, directx 8.1b, videocard drivers, soundcard drivers in that order, still same dx8+ issue... Any ideas?

What speed is your AGP slot set to? Also, you might try changing your AGP Aperature Size in your BIOS.

AGP speed is at 4x, aperature is 128mb. I've tried raising the aperature and lowering the AGP speed.. same issue with dx8+. I've removed the NIC and soundcard to check for incompatabilities, same problem..

Installing an older version of the VIA 4in1 (4.42) drivers has seemed to fix my problem.

You know, I wish I had read that first. Been fighting with mine for a week now. Changing settings, taking notes, hacking the BIOS options, reinstalling software, adding fans, moving cards, swapping power supplies...

Never once popped into my head that the problem didn't initially appear until after I updated the 4 in 1 driver a month or two back.

Reverted to 4.42, problem vanished.
