I got a new motherboard a while back, an Asus with a VIA chipset. Now, I can hardly use my computer with out it freezing.
There are many 'triggers' like minimizing Winamp, clicking on the customize button in Counterstrike, or watching a movie for too long. It even freezes sometimes right after typing in my password.
I have reformated many times, tried loading drivers in different orders, nothing seems to help. I think it starts when I load my sound card drivers, but i'm not positive. Does anyone know of any conflicts with the Diamond MX300 and VIA? Or have any other ideas what this could be?
I'm starting to go mad without Counterstrike or Everquest. Please help!

I unfortunately had the same problem with my MX-300 when I upgraded to an Asus K7V and an Athlon 800. I finally determined it was the soundcard when I nothiced that the 3dmark2000 benchmark worked fine, but the demo (which has sound) locked up everytime. I removed the soundcard from Device Manager and the lockups went away. My final solution was to "upgrade" to an MX-400, which solved my lockup problems. Unfortunately the sound quality of the 400 doesn't come close to the 300. I'd love to hear it if anyone knows how to get an MX-300 to work with this (Via KX-133) chipset.
