I just bought a Shuttle AK12A for my daughters computer. I get a message at boot that the flashtype is unknown (Phoenix Bios).

I also tried to flash the BIOS to the latest version and I get the same message. (I didn't get to flash it and it displayed the message before I tried).

She had a T-Bird 900 using the above board. ASUS V7100 video card and a Maxtor 20 Gb hard drive. I'm upgrading from the good ol Asus K7M with a 500 Slot A.

Any Ideas on what to try or do I just have a bad board??

I think that sometimes boards give that error when the bios overwrite protection is enabled (ie you cannot write to the flash rom).

Check in the bios somewhere, there may be a setting for it. Alternatively, there might be a jumper to enable bios upgrades (ala intel mobos). not sure about this particular case but it's a possibility.
