Ok I have a cablemodem/wireless router combo from time warner cable.

So I cant get a good wireless signal upstairs or in the backyard.

I tried a network range extender but that did nothing for me. It constantly needs to be reset.

No I am looking for a solution like
Running an Ethernet cable to I think an wireless access point. I believe that will
a. give me 3-4 ports for wired connection (ps3 xbox360 onkyo 616 and Shitty 922 dishnetwork receiver)
b. Give me wireless upstairs

And then doing the same thing for the backyard but I dont need wired outputs outside in the backyard

so will this work. can anyone help me out here.

I didnt have any spare wireless routers. (i accidently broke the one I had)
So I went with a wireless access point.

I hope that this is possible. Please someone tell me if it is.

Cablemodem/router hooked up to 8 Port Netgear switch hooked up to a wireless access point.

So is that setup going to work?

"Will it work" and "Will it do what I want it to" are two different questions. It depends greatly on your equipment and how you configure it, but you're on the right track.

What you want are a router and wireless access points that support Roaming. Roaming seamlessly hands off your signal to the access point giving you the best signal as you wander between access points so you're not constantly getting disconnected/reconnected. Think of it like how a public train station is set up, it all looks like one access point to the people there, but in reality there are between dozens and hundreds of access points up on the ceilings depending on the size of the station. Cheap access points either dont do this at all or say they can but do it very poorly. Business-class access points do it very well.

I only ever use the tablet in my bedroom it doesnt get used anywhere else. I play usually before bed.

Are there any special options that I need to choose from or set up to make this work?
