Need help with Dvd player coaxial out to Pc Soundcard

I need some info and help on this issue. I currently have a Philips 642 Dvd player and it has the digital coaxial sound out for 5.1 output. Problem is I do not have a receiver that decodes it.

I just got the logitech z640 speakers that are 5.1. I am currently running a SB live regular that does not do 5.1. My question for you guys is can the PC's soundcard act like a dolby/dts decoder and output the 5.1 to the speakers so I can watch my dvds in 5.1? I know I need a new soundcard anyways, can someone please explain to me if this setup is possible and will a regular o sb live 5.1 card do the trick?

Thanks

Don't think it's possible. For it to work you'd need a jack that'll accept digital line-in (line in on standard sound cards is regular stereo analog)

Ha, should've got the z-680 speakers, those'll do coax and decoding directly 😛

Hrmm that sucks, Well the 640's were only 36 bucks shipped, didnt wanna shell out alotta money on speakers. Guess itll be 4 speaker action for now.

Hrmm looked at the Audigy 2 zs, noticed it does have optical in, dvd player has optical out. Anyone know if i can hook these 2 together and output 5.1 through the sound card?
