I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro to fix a problem with some corrupt files, now I am having problems with Direct3d. Everything was working fine before I installed Windows XP Pro over my old install (using the upgrade option). I have a Gainward Geforce4 Ti4600, when I use NVIDIA's current detonator drivers and I attept to load up dxdiag.exe or start a direct3d enabled game I get a blue screen and it takes quite a while to dump the memory to a file. When I uninstall NVIDIA's current drivers and use Windows G4 ti4600 drivers I can load up dxdiag.exe but when I perform a direct3d test I get the following error: "Direct3D test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x887602eb (error code)". I am at a loss here, since DirectX is built in to Windows XP I don't see a way to replace or reinstall just DirectX. One thing that caught my attention though, when I'm launching the direct3d test in dxdiag.exe it reports right before the test "This test will use hardware-accelerated DirectX 7 interfaces." Now since I'm using DirectX 8.1 (Windows XP) this seems it could be part of the problem, but I don't know much about DirectX. Any help would be appreciated.
