I know you guys are pretty knowledgable when it comes to cameras, so I have a couple of questions. My dad is buying my mom a digital camera for xmas, but me and him don't really know what features to look for in one. We know that we'd probably get a 3 megapixel, but other than that we're stuck. What features should we look for in a camera and based on these features which cameras would you guys recommend? \\

UPDATE: We're gonna go with the A70 just because it takes some beautifual pictures. Thanks to all that helped!

Canon A70, reasonably priced for under $300. It's a great camera for beginners and it has a lot of good manual controls if you want to be a semi-expert.

My dad, a camera novice, got a Canon A40 for a very good price. His first complaint was about lack of zoom. I'd steer him to a FinePix S3000 if I had it to do over, knowing he wanted that zoom feature so bad.

Don't buy from Bestbuy, you pay a whole lot more. Dell has the A70 for S$299-29.90 + free shipping. Same thing for the Fuji S3000.

I didn't necessarily mean buying from Best Buy, but at least looking at their selection so that we can see what we're buying before we actually do.

Definately go with Canon. You can't go wrong with Canon. Do not go with some unknown brand because it was $99.99 for a 3mp camera. If you're looking for quality, go with Canon.

I just want to clarify for the INFORMED CONSUMERS that Canon isn't the only digicam manufacturer who makes good products.

Read these reviews from Imaging-Resource.com select a category from the top left.

Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Minolta and Sony also make excellent products.

They don't make a bright, 6X optical zoom, 3MP camera for $216.84
