Ok, I'm putting together the cpu/motherboard and zalman hsf.
The mobo is the DFI Lanparty UT NF3 for amd 64.
Ive got the cpu in and Im looking at the Zalman instructions and I'm kinda lost I guess.
It says to attach the nipples to the mounting plate, but all I see around the CPU is this yellow piece bracketing it in a square. When I take the screws out of that, it completely comes loose and the nipple screws arent long enough to hold it in place. So what am I doing wrong or missing here? I dont see any place to attach the nipples unless I'm supposed to take the plastic ? bracketing completely off and screw the nipples directly into the motherboard?

Thanks in advance for any help, advice !

Ok, I looked at the zalman instructions and yeah Im supposed to remove the plastic bracketing around the retention clip. I did that. But the nipples arent long enough to screw into the plastic backing on the other side of the motherboard.
So if I'm right, I need another backplate? But from where?

The Zalman you got is a 7000 series? It should have come with:

pair of brass thumbscrews with screw holes
backplate (similar to one attached to the underside of your mobo, but shorter threaded part)
FanMate1
two aluminum bars with screw hole in middle for P4
few screws
two aluminum funny looking things with three screw holes (if you got the 7000A series) for socket A
manual
bag of silica (don't eat ;) )
brown credit card sized thingy with washer punchouts (if you got the 7000A series)
small tube of thermal compound

You need to remove the motherboard's factory mounting mechanism, including the original backplate on the backside of the motherboard. Then, use the brass thumbscrews and metal backplate that came with the Zalman. Then, the HSF should bolt directly into the brass thumbscrews.

If you are missing or have accidentally lost/discarded the backplate, perhaps someone who bought one of these heatsinks who isn't using it on A64 can sell you a spare backplate. Hint: PM me.
