Hello all,

I have an Intel D965WM mobo
E6300
2gb ram (800)
2ea 74gb raptors
4ea 150gb raptors
X1600
650w PS
Windows XP (Vista Sucks)

I am trying to decide if I should upgrade to the following boards.

Intel Bad Axe 2
or
Asus P5k

I am not looking to overclock, but to have more options for HDs and maximum data throughput with my current hardware.

If there are other options please feel free to let me know.

The reviews of the BA2 and the P35s are awesome, but not sure if I would see a big notice, I know the raptors will compared to my current 160gb drives installed.

Thanks

I never use intel board, so i don't know how it really is on the run. Asus is well known board maker, so if i were you, i would take P5K and if i have more budget, i would take the deluxe version. Why ? i don't know, it's just sound luxury with "deluxe" thing.

There wasn't a big noticeable speed increase when I went from a DG965WHMKR to a D975XBX2 board with my e6300 and 4GB of DDR2-800 memory at stock settings. For the most part, it was the same performance minus that the D975XBX2 was slightly faster due to me being able to change the memory timings to what they were rated at instead of the "Auto" settings. As for the P35 based boards, I would expect the same thing from the same processor. However, if you were overclocking, then yes, you would see a noticeable speed increase from both on the processor side and the memory bandwidth side as well. :)

Just dont expect to overclock Intel Motherboards. You have to read their documentation carefully. The thing with Intel Motherboards is they dont update their BIOS that much because they make so many different motherboard designs. So make sure the motherboard you get does what you want and it says it specifically supports what you want to use.

I have seen some reports that some Intel boards only support XP with the 2nd update and it is hard to install XP and then update later.
