Ok here's the problem. I've got everything mounted on a board ready to go. It boots up fine & I go into the bios to set everything up. After anywhere between 5-60 seconds the pc shuts itself back off. Sometimes it shuts off so quick I can't even get into the bios.😕

I pulled everything and put it all back in making sure everything's seated good and it's still a no go. I know all the components work because I've tested them all in other computers except for the power supply.:frown:

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it? Could it possibly be the power supply since it's the only thing I don't know for certain works properly?
 
The only thing that comes to mind besides defective parts, is that the motherboard is reading the CPU temp at higher then what it should be (or maybe it's correct). What will happen, is the computer will shut itself down for safty reasons, without any messages.

The cpu is at default speed and in my cold basement (probably around 60 degrees in there). So if that's the case it would have to be the mobo reading the temp wrong. I just pulled the mobo from another system around a month ago and everything was working fine.:frown:
 
Try just setting up your boards with only the CPU(s), memory and Video cards, first before installing the other stuff.

Some nics don't like being in the slave PCI slots.
 
I had the same problem with my bx6, and low and behold it was the on/off switch.
So now I just cross the jumper when I need to boot it
 
Kilowatt the only other thing in the board other than what you named to leave is the NIC it's an ISA but I'll try removing it tomorrow morning and see what happens.

I've got another powersupply I know works lying around I'll try it in the morning also.

danzigrules I'm not using a switch. The mobo is set to autopower on. As soon as I plug in the powersupply it boots up. Although sometimes it won't boot and I have to short the atx power on pins to get it to boot.

the power supply isn't set to 250V is it?
hit the board a few times. Mine does this, has some loose electrical connections
i just whack it a few times.
reset the bios
that's all i can think of right now
 
ss59 it's set to 115v. I'm going to give it another try here in a couple of hours. I'll try resetting the bios if the other power supply doesn't work. If all else fails I'll slap it around a little.🙂
 
It seems that it was the power supply. I swapped it out with another 145w one and it works fine now. Thanks for the replies everyone.🙂
