need help with "command prompt" (XP home)

I have several batch files that I use as shortcuts to open programs, and am having an annoying problem with them.

the command prompt 'window' has become fullscreen somehow, so whenever i run my batch files it blacks out my screen for a few seconds while running them. How do I get it back to a normal window?

Start > Run > type "cmd"

Right click on the top bar, go to Properties.

Click on Window (as opposed to full screen)

click OK

Select to save for all windows of the same name.

I can't right click anything, as it is full screen... (not maximized, but FULL SCREEN)
