Need help with Chromecast and wired-ethernet PC

I recently got a chromecast and set it up today. I initially used my wired-ethernet PC to set it up but realized you have to have a wifi-connection.

No big deal. Hopped onto my laptop and set it up from there. Everything seems to be working fine. Laptop would tabcast fine as well as my iphone, both of which are connected via WiFi.

Now on my desktop PC which is connected via wired-ethernet, I am having issues tab casting. I have chrome installed as well as the cast extension. Anytime I try to tab-cast, I get a message "An unexpected error occurred, please try again". If I go to youtube.com and cast it from the buttons there, it works. Seems like just tab-casting won't work from my desktop.

I've rebooted my PC multiple times, unplugged/replugged the chromecast device, reinstalled chrome on my PC....nothing works.

I know you can tab-cast via wired-ethernet as long as you set up the chromecast via wifi initially.

Can any help me out?

Thanks.

That's weird. Yeah, tab casting works fine on my wired PC. Do you have any other extensions installed that might be interfering? I'd try disabling all other installed extensions except Google Cast and see if that helps.

Yeah it is very strange. Don't know what the dealio is.

The only other extensions I have currently are Google Docs and Logitech Set point. I've disabled both but it did not solve the issue.

Bump. Very annoying problem.

I can see my chromecast device on the chrome browser on my wired PC, but anytime I try to connect/cast to it, it gives me the unexpected error message.

Also, is there an easy way to get chrome to play mkv files with AC3 sound?

Maybe try disabling the Windows Firewall on the private network and seeing if that helps.

I haven't tried playing MKV files yet, so I'll have to test that tonight at home.

Appreciate your replies. I've always had windows firewall disabled.

I can ping the chromecast device from my desktop computer just fine, but for some odd reason, it won't cast to it via chrome browser.

Do you have WiFi isolation turned off and multicast turned on in your router settings?

I believe so. I'm using a Netgear WGR614v10 V1.0.2.60_60.0.85NA

Under the "Enable Wireless Isolation" feature, the box is unchecked, meaning it's disabled.

Under the "Disable IGMP Proxying" feature, the box is unchecked, meaning it's enabled. I assume the multicast is the IGMP feature right?

My wired PC will see the chromecast device, but when trying to tab cast to it, it gives me the unexpected error message.

If I can't get this to work by tonight, gonna return it :(

I had an issue where my wired PC could not detect Chromecast. I had to turn off multicast in the router. Looks like you've tried that?

It looks like you've tried streaming local content. Do you get lag or jittery images when you try to watch movies? I'm getting lag when watching movies, trying to figure out if it's chromecast or something wrong with my settings.

I tried everything that I could think of and could not get the thing to work with my wired PC. It could detect it fine but when trying to tab cast, it wouldn't work.

Ended up returning it.
