Ok, I think my problem is with the audio/data cable to my cd-rom drive. Here is how I got into this mess, I was trying to test my new hard drive out and I kinda change many of the settings for my IDE devices. Like changing my CD-RW from a Slave on my Primary IDE to my Master on the Secondary IDE, thus removing my CD-R rom drive. Then I added my new hard drive as a Slave to my Master hard drive on my Primary IDE. At first, my machine wouldn't even boot into Win98 nor would POST complete(Floppy light never lit), after trying several times to get this configuration to work and being unsucessful, I quit. I thought it was time to take it in to BestBuy for my extented warrenty. I changed everything back to it's normal configuration.
Hard Drive-Master, Primary IDE
CD-ROM Drive-Master, Secondary IDE
CD-RW Drive-Slave, Primary IDE
I removed a stick of RAM, put in the lower amount stick it had came with, then turned it on see if would start smoking or something because I hadn't put it in right(I usually have problems seating them right, stupid me:eek:) To my suprise it loaded Win98 and everything. The only problem was the my CD-R rom drive back in it's original Master on Secondary IDE was not working. I have checked all my connections to make sure they are secure. I know it is receiving power and have tried swapping the IDE cable with another one. The only thing I can't check is that audio/data cable. Could that be the problem to my computer not detecting my CD-ROM drive? Or could it be a motherboard problem? Also, I have noticed that it takes longer to load 98, it stays on the Win98 logo screen longer then normally. This happend when I once knocked out that audio/data cable.

I really don't want to have BestBuy send it somewhere if it's the one cable, they could order it for me and let me put it in. I couldn't stand to be without my computer for even a few days. Last time it took them 3 weeks to just recconnect a loose cable. I nearly went insane:(. So is this likey to be a motherboard problem where I would have to send it in?

Now, I can see why people feel A+ certifications are losing their value, I shame well deserving A+ technincians:(. Thanks for any help!:)

Don't know if this would do it or not, but did you check your bios settings? i did this to myself a long time ago, i had set the secondary slave channel to "none" in the bios and had forgotten about that. then later added a drive to that channel and spent a good 3 hours chasing my tail :)

I haven't touched my BIOS settings, I don't even know how to get into them from this computer. I know normally you can hit delete on most computers, but mine doesn't seem to go into the settings :(,
