Hi Guys, I was just wondering if you folks can give me some tips on how I could create better airflow inside my case. The case I am using is the Thermaltake Xaser v6000, and I hate it. First of all the reason I bought it is because it was rated very well by a lot of mags and websites, but my experience with the case has been awful. The main problem I have with it is that it has way too many wires (it was a bitch configuring it), the other problem is that the fan in the back isn?t working and I was wondering if there is a way I can find out if its not installed right or if its broken? Anyways I still have 4 other fans in the case working, so I was wondering what I can do with the wires to make better airflow. Thanks.

Wire infested RIG

*Edit*
Hi guys, I finally got a chance to fix up the insides of the case. I couldn't find wire sleeves at my local computer shop however I did manage to get some zip-up wire organizers to help me organize the insides of the case. Even though it doesn't look that organized from the picture, I did manage to get the wires out of the way of the airflow by attaching them to the back of the case and alongside the corners. I've also gotten rid of the hardcano system wires, so that I could stop it from cluttering the inside of the case. I also took a lot of parallel ATA wires and attached them to the back and also folded them. Now that I've fixed it up a little, the computers a lot quieter. However, I don't know if it is any cooler since I don't have a thermometer. I also removed one of the broken fans and am planning to send it back to thermaltake via RMA. Thanks for everybody's help.

New inside.

sleeve up ALL of those cables, rounded IDE cables for all of those devices and try going through all the wires, and use some cable ties to keep them together.

You can start by folding your IDE cables, face the 2 drives the other way.You can sleeve the power cables as mentioned and use some zip ties.I'm posting some pics of my rig to give you an idea on hiding the cables.

Makes me feel right at home - looks like the insides of my PCs awhile ago. They still aren't exactly tidy, but they're much better. I discovered Velcro zip-ties. (sorry, hook and loop fasteners - they're not technically Velcro). Very handy, as you can buy a whole reel of the stuff from Newegg, or elsewhere, and cut pieces as you need them. Major benefit over regular plastic zip ties - they are reusable.

That horizontal crossbar running near the bottom of the power supply - I have something like that in my SLK3700's; I have a whole bundle of wires tied to that bar, up and out of the way.

But sometimes, there's just too much stuff in there to do anything with. (Sorry about the slight bluriness. I think it's in a dead zone between macro mode and standard focus.) But you can see the lump of wiring at the top, and where it's tied down to the crossbar.

nice job on the case layout, thanks for the useful tips guys. I will definitely take the advice you've given me, anyone have any advice on how I can test the rear fan to see if it is dead or not.

It seems there's an uplugged molex connector in the pic, right below the video card but im not sure if that belongs to the rear fan.I think it's best you disconnect everything and start organizing your cables.

Best way is to disconnect everything and then start from scratch. You dont need your top side 120mm fan. I would just put a dust cover on that.

In any case:
1. Rout 1 molex chain above the psu and snuggled by the rear 120mm fan and traveling down the side of the rear fan (side opposite from mobo). This chain will power your rear 120mm fan, and side fans - perhaps your gpu if you require this.

2. Rout your your longest molex chain across the roof of your case to the front, and straigh down to your harddrives. You may have to spin your harddrives around 180°. If you do this, your hdd cables will be hidden.

3. Put your optical drives close together near the top. Rout a shorter molex next to your hdd molex chain in step 2 and then bring it above the top optical drive, and plug in the optical drives. Put excess cabling above or between the optical drives.

4. Rout your main 24pin and auxillar mobo power cables along the cables in step 2 and 3, and bring it straight down next to the motherboard. then rout to the appropriate sockets.

5. Get rid of your 5.25" usb, firewire etc controller if you dont really need it. Or move it down to the bottom 5.25" bay. The extra slack this affords you will allow you to hide the cables more easily. I would be tempted to unscrew your mobo and put these grey wires underneath it, and then at the bottom of the case, bring the wires back out briefly to plug them into the mobo.

6. Perform Cablegami on your ribbon cables. If your hdd are turned around, this would become easier. as you can hide ribbon cables under the mobo or keep them flat against any hidden surface.

7. I have never been much of a fan for side fans. If i were in your shoes, i would remove them all together. I would also remove the top fan as well. Place air conditioner filters where the fans where if there isnt already filter material.

The Neopower and rear 120mm exhaust fans were plenty strong enough to pull a great amount of air from the front. My belief is that as long as your box has good exhaust, you dont have to worry about too many intake fans as long as the exhaust fans have a passage of air from the front. Whether this is by cracks in the front, or by a perforated front bezel.

Thanks I will make those changes during a spring break. Great advice.

I own a v5000a, basically laid out the same, it took me 6 hours and several shots to get it together.
The back fan and the side fan are controlled off the two front large speed control knobs on the door. You should be able to swop the connections, and see if the fan works.
Please make sure your fans are facing the right way, the side panels look correct, the upper was facing the wrong way when I recieved mine.
Now not to be picky your fans are all 80MM, The rear and side upper being the loudest when turned all the way up, the front, top, lower side don't really change speed all that much, you could just plug them into the molex connectors and do away with the hardcanno unit all together. Depending on your PSU fan I like the top fan, but its a personal thing I guess. I might consider a new PSU with better connections, but again thats personal choice. Again as everyone else stated round IDE cables, although I don't think its possible to flip the hard drives around as you cannot access the other side. Part of the design of this case seems to rely on the side fans pumping air as the front does not push alot of air in. I added my old(new) fan from HSF(about 40MM) to the side panel via a the middle pci suppport bracket on the side panel. Route all your rear and side fan cables under the side door lip the molex connectors make it hard. I also see alot of connectors in between your hdd bays and your 3.5 bays you need to move those out.
And your top usb, 1394, sound bracket is not removable with out major surgery, so I would not try and move that.
buy alot of zip ties, I use split looming, avaliable at your local home improvemnt store, I bought the widest you can get(because of the Molex connetors). If you leave your Hardcanno in you have alot of room in there to tuck power cables in and you can move your feeds from the fan control loom into there, I dunno why they run them half way down the loom. A layered method as described would work I would pul the hardcanno unit entirely, then do all drives install all the fans and drop in the hardcanno lastly. Pulling the hardcanno saves a bunch of hassle untill you are ready for it.

Thanks guys, I've taken into consideration what you've all said regarding organizing the inside of the case. I now feel that I had better airflow inside the case, but then again you guys are the judge. Let me know if he think I'd didn't organize it correctly, I did the best that could with the material I had.

Zip ties are your friend. Or you can take it to you mom and pop shop and they usually do cable management for cheap.
