Need help with Cable modem connection

Howdy,

I have a couple problems with my new cable connection.

1) I lose sync often. General web surfing is fine for the most part(still a problem) but games always cause problems after about 5 min. Un-plugging and plugging back in fix the problems every time.

2)I can't download large files. 18megs is the most I've downloaded before connection messes up (usually around 6megs it quits)

When I lose sync the lights on the modem are always all in the green but still no connection and when re-opening browser it says trying to detect proxy server.

Hope you can help.

Service provider: @HOME
Modem: Motorola Surfboard 3100
NIC: SOHOWARE (the one they give you)
Puter: Athlon 1.1Ghz, Abit KT7A-Raid
OS: Win 98SE

Next time you lose connection open a command prompt and type

ping 24.12.167.1

watch the results, see if they time out or if the all give a response, and if so what the ping times are.
then type

ping www.yahoo.com

same thing, what happened.

This will help determine if your losing full connection, dns problems, or possibly a proxy error.
