hi everybody i have an ipod video for which i want to set up a good speaker system.
the main issue is power. i need a good subwoofer and good satellites. since its just stereo audio i was thinking of just going with 2.1 set-up. is it a good idea to go with 5.2 for stereo?

first choise?
get computer speakers , or ipod specific speakers. i like the klipsch ifi for the ipod but if there is something for a little less that can do the same thing but it isnt ipod specific then i would get that. so it doesnt need to be ipod specific as long as it is powerful and not too expensive like say $300

second choice?
getting two speakers (large ones) and a reciever seperately , which people use usually for home audio and not computer . first i would like to know if i connect ipod through coaxial cable (red and white) is it good quality and secondly can anthing fit is the 300 dollar range. lastly is this a good i dear or should i just go with my first choice and get digital speakers

another question?
which one of these is the best in comfort and audio?
bose triport, shure e5c, etymotic er6i

let me know and thanks a lot in advance.

Klipsch iFi would be good bang for the buck if you can get them for $200-ish and like the Klipsch sound.

Hooking up to a receiver with RCA cables should work just fine too.

You could get a new basic receiver for around $100

You could get something cheaper if you went with something used (a receiver or an integrated amp off ebay etc)

You would have some decent choices for speakers on a $200 budget then.

There were some inexpensive floorstander options mentioned in this thread

I'm not really a big headphones guy, but I do know that comfort is going to be a personal preference thing.

EDIT: you could also do a combo of a set of 2.0 computer speakers and a HT subwoofer
(Klipsch 2.0 or Swan M200 + Dayton 12" sub) but you might just be better off with the iFi set.

thanks for the replies some more opinions would be nice.

also has anyone heard the klipsch ifi`s are they really floor shaking and loude because i mean i know they are powerful in terms of watts but like 100watts in small speakers and 100 watts in large speakers are two totally different volume levels in my opinion

If they were the same sensitivity and the wattages were accurate then they should be comparable.

I haven't heard Ifis, but my parent's 2.1 promedias get pretty loud. The Ifis should get louder than those speakers also. Klipsch seems to have pretty sensative speakers.

You might be able to listen to the Ifi somewhere local also. I've actually seen them at Urban Outfitters, and I think Circuit City and Apple stores might have them.

Look in Hot Deals for the Logitech Z-2300's. I'm happy with mine, got them in last week's buy.com deal (free shipping).

Check out the dimensions before buying though, the sub is pretty big. Sound quality (with the sub turned almost all the way down) for music is excellent.
