My Abit BH6 cpu fan header is now only working intermittently. The fan will come on, then turn off. Any ideas? Ver. 1.0. I just put a Celeron 633 into the system, and since then the fan headers have been very flaky. First the cooling fan header died, and now the cpu fan header seems to have died. What can I do? (Other than trash the MB?)

I hooked up the fan to a regular power connector on 5 volts. Is that okay? I can't get fan speed, but I guess it doesn't really matter, does it? Help.

Sounds like your on board fan header is dead or the CPU is taking up too much juice (I doubt that). Might wanna check to see if the pins are still connected to the board. Most fans generally use 12v but it will run at 5v... you'll just get a lower RPM rate. You can always modify the fan to make it into a standard molex connector using the 12v lead.

Definitely sounds like the fan headers are blown. I had that happen to me on a BH6 after a BIOS flash once. Agree with Braxus, connect the fans to your pwr supply.

I remember from a couple of years ago that fan headers dying for no reason was the most common problem with the BH6 boards. There is no real 'fix' for this, other than use a connector to connect your fan power into a regular power cable from the power supply..... No rpm readings that way, but it works just fine.

Thanks guys, that's what I did. Is the fan in a golden orb a 5 volt or 12 volt. I hooked it up as 5 volts, and it works fine, 32C temps, but if it is 12 volts, maybe I should reconnect it.

What do you think, leave it at 5 volts (temp is 36C) or change it back to 12 volts?
