NEED HELP WITH B0RKED PC

I have recently been having a problem where when I power off my PC, if I try to turn it back on again, it turns on and there is fan activity but no beeps or BIOS loading. this doesnt happen if i reset the PC.

But.. today I changed the processor to a processor which is supported by my motherboard and now if i try to power up, the same thing happens. it just has fan activity and light on motherboard but no loading. normally to fix this problem i merely had to leave my pc alone for approx 20 minutes but now it just wont start even if i leave it for ages.

also, my old chip doesnt work either now....

anyone have any ideas?

unfortunately... your cpu is probably broken, since it doesnt work in either motherboard. you're going to have to RMA it back to where you got it (look on the website for instructions).

also, welcome to the forums!

ive tried 2 cpus in the same motherboard and neither work. and i was getting this problem (but only straight after power down) with my old chip. surely more likely to be the mobo or sommat else than the chip ?

Did you try re-seating the memory sticks in the slot's ? Also check all connections to be sure nothing is loose.

i took out the memory first and tried to boot. nothing happened. didnt even start the POST let alone get to the stage where it will beep at me to tell me there's no RAM.

re-seated it. still no joy.

getting very frustrating....

First, try reseating all cards and add-on boards. Clean out slots and clean off contacts on cards. Only put in the bare necessities: Memory, CPU, Video card. Reset the BIOS. Try again. Reseat the video card a few more times to make sure; some motherboards are very picky. Only use one stick of memory at a time to see if one of those is bad. If you can boot, then add one card at a time after every successful boot into the OS. Find out which one is the culprit. If none of this works, and you can't get it to boot, then the motherboard is probably bad.

My system exhibited similar problems\symptoms once and it turned out the hard drive was going south.

but it cant be my hdd cos when i unplug my hdd, the pc doesnt even run through bios. think the mobo is f*cked now to be honest
