Need help with Audigy 2 ZS Sounde Card and a Headset

Ok I got a headset back in Jan. 07, but haven't taken the time to hook it up. Last night I tried to get it to work, but nothing happened.

This is my situation:

I have a SteelSeries 3H Professional Gaming headset and a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Sound Card. The problem is I don't know where to hook up the two connectors on the headset (one has red circles on the the metal part, and the other has green circles on the metal part) into my sound card. Last night when I loaded up Ventrilo, I heard my friend's voice through my computer speakers and not the headset. They couldn't hear me from my mic and they I couldn't listen to them through the headphones. I tried using different connectors on different ports, but nothing worked.

Can anyone help me out? I would sooooo be grateful, thanks.

The connector with red circles is the mic, the green circles is the headphones. Plug the mic in to the mic jack, and the headphones in to the line-out #1 jack.

Oh and also the problem using port #4 is that my speakers are using that port. Any way around that?

EDIT: Ok so now I did what Virge told me and I am hearing sound from the headset (have not tested the mic yet in a game)

Will I always have to sacrifice one or the other when I need to use one, or is there a solution so I can plug in both the headset and the speakers without having to fumble with the cables?

Does your Audigy come with a 5.25" drive bay breakout like that picture shows? If so, it has a headphone jack(using the older, larger plug) that is auto-sensing and will cut off your speakers when it finds the headphones plugged in. Otherwise you'll need to get a stereo splitter and turn off your speakers when you want to use your headphones.

Ok it does have that, but I have another question..

Ok last night I got the sounds coming from the headphones, but the mic doesn't seem to be working. And also when I signed on Ventrilo I could hear people speaking, but it would keep breaking and there periods of silence lasting a few seconds. Does anyone know what I can do for that?

There's no obvious answer to your problem. It could be anything from bandwidth problems to a loose connection.
