Use the Asus update utility, which runs under Windows, that is included on the CD that came with your mobo.

Download the latest BIOS manually from the website to a folder. Version 1019, released Oct 2004, is available here:

http://www.asus.com.tw/support...Name=P4C800-E%20Deluxe

Open Asus Live Update and make sure you have 5.22.02 or later. Run the program as if you are going to update BIOS file from the internet to update AsusUpdate. If the program is updated, it will restart itself.

Then, within ASUSUpdate, at the first screen, choose "Update BIOS from a file". Navigate to where you saved the BIOS file. If is a zipped file, you will have to select "Zipped BIOS Files" at the "Files of type" drop-down box. Select the latest BIOS and select open.

When you get to the BIOS flash screen, make sure the Clear CMOS box is checked. Close down ALL programs running in the background.

Flash the BIOS and reboot when prompted.

Press DEL at the bootup screen and restore all of your settings. You might want to write these down beforehand if you don't remember what you set.

Cheers.

The checkbox was the one. Your fonts are probably just set to larger than normal, so you couldn't see all of the text. Anyway, everything you described is normal.

First, go into the BIOS, and load all default settings.

Then, go through all BIOS screens and set settings the way you had them. This is done so that any new settings allowed by the new BIOS actually get initialized to a value, as opposed to not having a value at all.

dont use the bios flash utility or any windows based program, they suck and can give you very serious issues to the point that you need to replace your bios chip.

create a bootable floppy
d/l the bios from

i got to run right now ill finish this when i get home from work sorry

create a bootable floppy
d/l the bios from the asus sight and save it to the bootable floppy
copy the file name on a piece of paper.
copy the afudos.exe utility from the cd that came with your mobo onto the bootablew floppy that you have the bios on.
now restart without the floppy in and go into the bios, set it so floppy is first to boot from

now put the floppy in and reboot.

at the dos prompt type in afudos/i<theexactfilename.rom> now make sure you type the file name in as you wrote it down. then enter

like a file name p4c800ed.rom is good to use.

dont shut down while its flashing
when its done it will return to the dos screen A:\>

now take out the floppy and reboot and set it back to boot from hard disc first, you have just flashed your bios.
if your using the flash utility and you get a bad flash you are just plain screwed.

let me know how it does.
i think bios 1017 has a beep error and is annoying

if you need help overclocking i wrote a guide for it here

no, it will keep the same bios. its not stored on the hard drive but on a chip on the mobo.

but there is a great risk when using windows type programs like easy flash. if the bios is corrupted by whatever reason and you get a bad flash, or if power goes out, or if windows crashes (most likely thing to happen) then you have no way to fix it. you wont be able to boot at all, and the only way to fix it is replace the bios chip.

www.badflash.com is one place where you can get a new chip. not that you need it now, just good to know stuff.

yes, it probably works mojaority of the time, but its the chance of using it.

what happens if half way thru the flash it sticks and cant do it? you wont be able to get into window with a bios to try it again.

:Q Try overclocking manually instead of the AI crap. You should optimize your BIOS first. Try this. I'm sorry but this thread contains the best quotes I have heard in a while:D
