Hello all the experts,
I just put together a cheap computer using the Asus MEW-VM mother board and VIA 650 MZ processor. When I first turn on the system, I get the HEWLETT-PACKARD flash screen and nothing after that (my monitor indicates the video is present because the green light is on, if there is no video, the light will turn amber)the monitor is blank.I tried to enter set up by pressing F1 during start up, I get the message "entering SET UP" but again the monitor is blank.I could not find any information about this mother board, any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums :)

OK, I found some threads pertaining to the Hawk mobo you have at HP's Biz forums LINK1link2link3 I also found the HP info for that board DATA SHEET I couldn't find any info concerning using a Cyrix CPU with it though and the info I did find says it uses the Intel 810 chipset and that it's for use with the Celeron and PIII, however someone in one of the Biz forum threads mentions there are multiple revisions of the board so I can't say positively that it won't work with the Cyrix but that would be my first guess. You could try the fix that the guy Steve says worked for him
After much frustration with this "HAWK" motherboard and the shutdown/startup problem, I figured out a work around....

When it locks up, hold in the power button in the usual manner to shut it down.

Watch the monitor. The second the computer shuts off, punch the power button turning the computer back on. You have only a fraction of a second to pull it off, but it will work.

Good luck and post back with your results, BTW, you can always post in the HP Biz forum as a last resort and see if those guys can help :)

OH, I also noticed several people say that the board can't support higher than a 500mhz CPU without an adapter or a Powerleap Neo S370 HTH :)

Thanks Dapunisher, I got the board working, the problem was a bad stick of pc133 SDR memory. However; I now have another problem:It doesn't boot up. After replacing the RAM, I loaded Window 98 SE to the computer. The next day, I installed the sound card and Modem. While testing out the sound and the modem,I shut down the computer and when I turned it on again, I get 1 long beep and 2 short beeps and after few minutes, I get 2 short beeps and the computer shut itself off.The CPU fan runs, the power indicator light is on and everything else seems ok but no video.I think the mother board is bad.I got the board from www.mcmelectronics.com for $18 about a month ago_Oh well, I got for what I paid for.
