Tuff

What k62 processer is it? Some ran at 66mhz, some at 95 and some at 100mhz. Let me know which K62 cpu it is, and i will tell ya.

Processors do not use RAM on their own behalf. That's up to the mainboard's chipset. So what chipset does the mainboard use? (And what mainboard is that?)

Worst memory usable with K6-2 chipsets is Fast Page Memory at 66 MHz, at best it's PC100-222 SDRAM.

i'm not sure. all i know is that it's k6-2 300Mhz. i know that the 400s have a 100fsb, but i'm unsure about the 300z. also, i think that its ss7 or something like that. thanks for helping.

The K6-2/300 may run at 60, 66, 75, or 100 MHz bus. The "normal" K6-2/300 is 100 MHz capable, but that doesn't mean it is used that way on YOUR mainboard. There have been a few 100-MHz-incapable K6-2/300, these have a "-66" marking on them.

the reason i'm asking is because i want to find out what kind of ram my friend has. if it's pc100 then i can use it, if not then i have to buy a new stick. but i don't think that it's pc100 ram. his computer's a couple of years old.

Here's the problem - RAM rarely has any markings on it that indicate what type or speed it is. If it's generic, you're probably out of luck in terms of finding out. If it's name-brand RAM, you can call up the manufacturer and give them the serial number, and they should be able to tell you what type it is. However, since it's more than a year old, I'm guessing it's mucho slower than 100Mhz, considering 100 mhz wasn't standard for CPUs even six months ago.
