I erased my other post regarding the WINE program since I found a workaround. Here is another problem I have:
I'm running Slack 10.2 with 2.6.13 kernel and have 1 x intel 8x0 onboard sound and 1 x maddog entertainer 7.1 (envy24ht/ice1724) sound card and the latest ALSA 1.0.9b.
I'm using the default 2.6.13 kernel that comes as an option during install of Slack 10.2 and installed the ALSA slackware package that came on disc2. I ran alsoconf and it detected
the following:
intel8x0 nVidia Corporation nForce3 250Gb AC'97 Audio Controller
ice1724 VIA Technologies Inc. VT1720/24 (Envy24PT/HT) PCI Multi-Channel
legacy Probe legacy ISA (non-PnP) chips
I had alsaconf auto-configure the first two above and noticed the modules.conf file would only contain the settings for the last sound card that alsaconf configured, so I merged the two into one modules.conf file.
Anyway, my problem is this:
1. the intel8x0 onboard sound (device 1,0) works fine for everything I try (XINE, XMMS,
and etc.) but if I try to play MP3's with XMMS while viewing a DVD in XINE, I can
only hear sound out of the first program that accessed that soundcard.
Could someone tell me how (or point me to a good, easy-to-understand source) to get
multiple audio streams working so I can have multiple programs access the soundcard
at the same time?
I believe I read that ALSA 1.0.9rc and above no longer require you to install DMIX,
since it will autodetect if your soundcard has hardware mixing or not and do the install
for you if necessary. Well, I think I read somewhere that the intel8x0 doesn't have
hardware mixing, but I can't find any option for DMIX.
2. Could someone tell me how (or point me to a good, easy-to-understand source) to
get TWO soundcards working? My second soundcard, shown in the list above,
shows up as a selection in XMMS, but when I select it, I get a pop up saying:
Couldn't open audio
Please check that:
Your soundcard is configured properly
You have the correct plugin selected
No other program is blocking the soundcard
I'd appreciate some help figuring out why it won't work.
Thanks in advance!
