The chipset fan is so LOUD when I start my computer and the noise eventually cycles down after a few minutes. Can I go to Radio Shack and get a new fan. Will that fit or do I have to go somewhere else?

You can just unplug it from the motherboard. You don't need that fan.

I unplugged mine over a month ago and haven't had any problems. My PC is on all the time, too. The chipset heatsink doesn't feel warm to the touch, so I doubt the fan helps at all anyway.

Yep, I unplugged my chipset fan a while ago too. Amazing how annoying those little fans can be!

The TT Blue ORB is a good replacement...might wanna consider. Generally, active cooling on the NB is not necessary. But some form of cooling is recommended...like just putting in a HS.

If u r O/Cing FSB, then active cooling is necessary.

Why replace the HS that is already on the NB? Waste of time and money. Unless you are overclocking the fsb.

You can safely unplug the fan. Even better would be to unplug it and take it off the heatsink by removing the four screws. That way air can still circulate and the passive heatsink can do its thing better without the restrictions of a useless fan on top.

Like I said before, if u r O/Cing the FSB...active cooling is necessary as the NB tends to get quite hot in those setup. If u r runing at stock speed, some from of cooling is recommended (like at least a HS...no fan).

In the country tht I'm in the ambient temp could get as high as 30C, case temp at 40C....so some cooling is needed for added stability.

No money wasted if u just unplug the current fan & leave it. Wasting time...unplug take less than 5 sec...but if u r not into wasting tht 5 sec...I suggest u just leave it....a bit noisy thou.

Hoep tht clear ur doubt.
