I have an access database that grew to 1,048,976 kb or 1gb. I am unable to open the database or compact or repair. Access is reporting that it is not a database file anymore. I know that Access has the 1gb size limitation. How can I open the database so that I can compact it or delete some records? Is there another utility that I can use? Will importing it into SQL help?

Any ideas will be helpful. Thanks.

What is the exact error message? What version of Access? Did you search at support.microsoft.com yet?

Access 97 and 2000. Upon opening the database, Access says it needs to repair the file. Upon repairing the file, Access says it is not a database file. Upon compacting the file, Access says it is not a database file.

I've got a few Access 2000 databases that are pushing around 1.5GB. Access 2000 .MDBs can get up to 2GB.

Have you tried to import the objects into a different database?

Check this link on MS support for more help.
