Need help with Abit KT7A and USB

The only board installed is the video.

The VIA latest drivers are installed. I have installed the Win98se update for USB.

The first time the USB is installed it will work until the computer is rebooted and will then hangup.
If I remove the USB cable eveything will work as normal until I plug in the USB.

I have tried using a USB scanner and a Smart Media Card Reader. The hangup will happen anytime after the computer is running and the USB pluged in.

I have also tried using only Win98se with no other software or drivers installed. The same hangup occurs.

I have tried both ways of setting USB IRQ in the bios. Enabled and then Disabled.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I had this same problem for months, really made me angry, abit tech support never responed to emails and the phone call was international so that wasn't an option, I was ready to throw the thing out untill I found a website called www.usbman.com The first thing you should do is update to the latest 4 in 1's (v 4.38) then go to usbman.com and click the drivers link, then the via link at the top, grab the usb filter driver, and any other drivers pertinent to your setup, that should get it to work, make sure you read all instructions.

Thanks for the reply. I installed Via 4.38 and 1.10 USB. Now both USB ports operate just fine until I try to install another program.

First I could not install all the scanner software untill I unpluged the scanner and Smart Media Reader , then the scanner software would completely install.

Then I rebooted with scanner and media plugged in. All would work. I rebooted numerous times and both would work ok.

Then I started to install nero and then the computer froze just like before. I unplugged the usb ports, reboot and nothing would freeze.

Then I plugged in the USB scanner and media Reader and both would work .
It seems that installing any software when the USB ports are plugged in would cause a freeze.
Any one have any Ideas?
Thanks
