Need help with a very annoying problem

When I try to install most programs it takes for ever for the install process to complete! For example, I just tried to reinstall Diablo II and it took 40 minutes just to reach halfway! I have the same harddrive and DVD drive as I did on my old computer and on that computer install times were lightning fast. The install times have only become unbareably long since I upgraded my computer. Here is the specs of my new computer:

Athlon 1.4 Tbird
K7S5A Mobo
512MB Crucial DDR (2x 256)
MSI 8831 GeForce 2 Pro 64MB DDR
WDExpert 20.5GB ATA 66 7200RPM
Pioneer 10x DVD
SBLive
Linksys NIC

I have DMA checked on the Harddrive and DVD and I have the newest SiS drivers installed. This is very annoying and I am curious if anyone has any suggestions or similar problems maybe. All help is appreciated!

Whats the cooler on your Bird, those purdose up to 70 watts of heat.

That doesnt sound like a heat issue but you never know. How do you have your HD and DVD hooked up, what controllers are they on.
