I have 3 computers on my network.
Computer 1 - "file server" running windows xp
Computer 2 and 3 - windows 7

There are two drives in the 'file server'
drive 1 -C:- OS
drive 2 -E:- a shared drive that the other 2 computers access files/folders on, and even some programs store data here.

On computer 2 and 3 - drive 2 in the "file server" is mapped to drive Z:

Everything has been working great for about a year. But, drive 2 in the "file server" got full.
I added another larger drive in the "file server" and copied all the files from the original drive 2 to the new drive. I then removed drive 2.
I changed the drive letter of the new large hard drive (it was F:) to E:)
I was hoping that by doing this, the other computers that access this drive over the network would be "fooled" into using the new drive and everything would continue working.
I was wrong.
None of my mapped drives, or shortcuts work.

The only thing I can see is: when I look at the properties of the shortcuts on computer 2 and 3 it says "//computer 1/E:/folder" but when I browse to computer 1 on computer 2 or 3, the shared drive is listed as "e:" (small case!)
I think that is where the problem is, the fact that it sees the drive as "e:" not "E:" so the path is not correct.

Is there anyway for me to make them see the share as "E:"

If you have any questions I will try to answer them, but I am at a loss. Thanks in advance for reading this and trying tg help me out.

could try..

powering down and unpluging
and temperarily unplugging the new E drive
go into the registry and delete all of the entries pertaining to E here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices

power down again and plug back in the new drive. and see if it can be assigned properly then

I got that reg reference entry from a different topic here:
