Need help with a seti caching program.

Here's the deal. I need to setup a seti caching program on my sister's computer. The problem is she has a dialup modem and only 1 phoneline. So the only time it needs to automatically connect to download new wu's is at night while she's asleep. Ideally it needs to disconnect from the isp when it's done to free up the phone line as well. The setup needs to be almost transparent to the user so that her technologically challenged husband can't screw anything up!!

I know SetiQue can be set to connect at a designated time. Could someone tell me if I can set SetiQue to connect at say 12:30a.m. and it do it's bussiness and disconnect and not have to reconnect until the same time the next night? If so how about please telling how to configure SetiQue to make sure it connects at only the time I specify.

Right now I'm using SetiDriver on her's and it's a pain in the butt to have to go to her house and dump a load of wu's once a week!!

Blade_47 - it looks like the 2nd option in the QSETI.txt config file in SetiQ - "sync_hour" and "sync_minute" is what would need to be set. This option tells SetiQ what time to connect to the seti server to upload results. You would probably need to also set the "autoconnect" to "=no" so it will not automatically do so after each result but would wait until the set time... And then you could probably leave "startupconnect" to "=no" so it only connects when it's running and at the time you set.

I have a cable modem, so I don't have the same issues, but most folks do use dialups and apparently don't have a problem.

You may want to test that "autoconnect" parameter just the same - just in case.... I'm not too clear as to whether disabling it with the "no" means you'll always have to activate it to manually connect to seti via the SQ.exe utility or not...!!!

If you set the time to connect in qseti.txt, and leave autoconnect=yes, I believe SETIQ will dial out on the modem at the specified time to fetch and flush WUs. I'm not sure if it hangs up the modem though...does your sister's ISP have a timeout feature, so it'll automatically hang up the phone line if SETIQ doesn't?

Yeah, her isp has a timeout but sometimes it disconnects you and sometimes it doesn't. I have the same isp as her and sometimes i'll get dropped when there's no activity and sometimes i'll stay connected all day.

re: disconnecting, you just have to set the dial up properties in Internet OPtions / Connections / <your default dial up connection>

Set the properties for that connection to disconnect after 20 mins of inactivity, then winblows will do it all by itself..

Okay - that's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure since I leave autoconnect on with the cable modem... That confirms it then...
