need help with a new thunderbird system

Helped a friend build a computer and he is getting lock ups every 20 mins or so. What could it be? We installed the via drivers. Here is the system

AMD 1.33mhz thunderbird not overclocked and at 1.8v
256mb of kingston ram
cd rom
geforce 2
IWILL kk266 motherboard (using onboard sound)
WD 30 gig hard drive
ANTEC case with 300 watt power supply
network card (what is the best slot on this motherboard?)
Some times the sound skips after the computer has been on for a while. He locked up when burning a cd too.
Almost forgot running windows me and not patched with anything

Try disabling the sound in the BIOS and see if that helps.

What O/S is he using?

Is SB16 emulation enabled in the device manager?

I had to turn off SB16 emulation in device manager . . . I ran out of IRQs. Try turning that function off.

My brother had problems running ME ... he would get a lock-up every 15 or so min. I don't remember what hardware he had but keep that in mind ...
