need help with a new thunderbird system

Helped a friend build a computer and he is getting lock ups every 20 mins or so. What could it be? We installed the via drivers. Here is the system

AMD 1.33mhz thunderbird not overclocked and at 1.8v
256mb of kingston ram
cd rom
geforce 2
IWILL kk266 motherboard (using onboard sound)
WD 30 gig hard drive
ANTEC case with 300 watt power supply
network card (what is the best slot on this motherboard?)
Some times the sound skips after the computer has been on for a while. He locked up when burning a cd too.
Almost forgot running windows me and not patched with anything

Best thing you can do is first of all make sure all drivers are the newest versions and state they are compatible with Windows Me. If the problem still exists then try one at a time, pulling devices out of the computer. First the nic, boot, does it happen? Yes, ok, so take something else out. Slowly work your way through until it doesn't happen. That way you can narrow it down to find out what the problem is.
