Need Help with a new Laptop

A friend is looking for a new laptop.

Priorities in order of importance...
1) Price (preferably under $600)
2) Wifi capable
3) LAN
4) USB port (at least 1)
5) DVD Burner nice, but not a have to have

Primary use is email and job estimates (very basic word and excel documents). The Acer over at Officemax seems reasonable. Anyone have other thoughts or recommendations? I would strongly prefer a known brand, since I'm doing the support.

Last year I purchased an Aspire 5610, now you can get the updated version for $300 less (which would be $700) and it is upgraded compared to when I purchased mine. This thing is still running well with vista installed myself. (I speak in canadian dollars BTW)

Acer is great.

Aside from Acer, Dell is your best price as far as I'm aware. Get him to look into refurbished laptops, just make sure they come with the 1 year warrantee of a new one, there is nothing wrong with buying refurbished.

Thanks for the reply!

I don't have an objection to refurb's but it's tough to recommend them to others that are more neophytes. He likes Dell, so I might look at their refurbs.
