Need help with a new build

I'm slowly piecing together a new build, with an estimated launch date of Jan. I'd like to use my existing RAM OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2, DDR 400 to keep costs down, but I know that new CPUs / Motherboards are using much higher rated DDR.

Realistically what options due I have with this RAM? I don't game much, so I hardly need the best of the best when it comes to CPU / motherboards. I would like to take advantage of this RAMS capability and OC a bit just for the fun of it.

I tentatively will buy the CPU and Motherboard in Nov / Dec. What do you all suggest?

Socket 939, that's it.

Oh, and socket 939 ceases production at the end of this year ;) (Of course supply will still be around for a while after that)

SO AMD X2, would be the best bet. Any suggestions of which one likes to OC, if any?

All of the dual cores will OC to around the same point. The 3800X2 is dirt cheap and looking to get cheaper in a few weeks (not sure if the price drop has happened in the UK yet but the prices are stupidly low here already). However if you're overclocking then you should really consider selling on that RAM and getting a 6400 Core 2 Duo instead, X2s OC to around 2.4Ghz -> 3.0Ghz. Core 2 Duos are more powerful per clock and go to around 3.0-4.0Ghz.

Don't even think about getting parts selected.

Don't look now, that is only 5 months away, but if the right deals come along I might expedite the process.

I already have picked up

HD Samsung SATAII 250 GB $60 AR
PSU : Ultra 500 Watt X Infinity (I know not the greatest, but $10 AR, I took a chance, I have a decent TT if worst comnes to worst with this PSU)
Floppy: Samsung with built in card reader. $26
OS : XP Pro, got the retail update box for $70 AR, I'm not in any hurry for Vista.

I'm liking this case

Any thoughts on a Video card in the $150, range and soundcard for about $50

Video card - wait for G80, those things depreciate the fastest of any component (with the unusual exception of CPUs recently)
