Need help with a monitor

I have a 17inch Gateway2000 Vivitron monitor and I'd like to use it. So I plug it up and boot the PC. It just says its the default monitor and will not let me change res or anything (thinking I need drivers). Also after a min the screen starts to flicker from the normal desktop to black every few seconds. This happens until you turn the PC off. Anybody have any ideas? I went to Gateway.com and tried to download the drivers but for some reason I couldn't download anything. If I do need a driver would somebody be so kind as to email it to me? Thanks for any help!

Of course I've already done that and they gave me bullsh*t excuses. They said to move things away from the monitor, those things were there 5 mins earlier and it was working fine. So now I'm trying to turn to some real technical help.
